Welcome to DVLA Personalised Registration Auctions!
Thinking about getting a personalised registration number? You’re in the right place! DVLA auctions are where you’ll find a wide range of registrations up for grabs – from fun combinations to something that feels perfectly “you”.
This help page is here to walk you through the process step by step – from signing up and placing a bid, to what happens if you win. Whether it’s your first time at an auction or you’ve joined before, we’ll make sure you know exactly what to expect.
💸 Fees
What are the auction fees and costs?
Before you bid, it’s a good idea to set a budget. Keep in mind that the final price you pay will include fees and VAT as well as your winning bid. Here's what you’ll need to pay (if you are the winning bidder):- VAT (20%) on the winning bid
- Buyer’s Premium (3%) + VAT (20%)
- DVLA Assignment Fee: £80
| Hammer Price | £ |
|---|---|
| VAT on winning bid 20% |
|
| Buyer's Premium 3% |
|
| VAT on buyer's premium 20% |
|
| DVLA Assignment Fee | £80.00 |
| Total to pay |
|
Are there any additional assignment fees?
The assignment fee is already included in the total invoice cost, so there’s nothing extra to pay.
💰 Deposit
Upon registration you are automatically allocated a spending limit of £1,000 without having to pay a deposit.
If you wish to place a bid of more than £1,000, you must pay a deposit of 10% of the maximum bid you want to place, before you can place that bid. For example if you want to bid £1,200, you will need to pay a deposit of £120.
Deposits can be increased at any time during an auction and can be paid in the “spending limit” section of your account.Your deposit is 10% of your spending limit (if you wish to bid over £1,000), to increase your deposit you can go to the ‘my account, spending limit’ section of your account to amend.
Yes, you can. If you win a lot in the auction your deposit amount will be used against your invoice.
If your bid is unsuccessful, your deposit will be refunded automatically within 3 working days (how long it takes to receive the funds into your account will depend on your bank’s processes).
Bidding
What happens if you win a lot in an auction?
Congratulations! You’ll get an email notification when the auction has closed (check your spam/junk folder just in case), this will inform you of the next steps to take.
You can also view updates in your account under ‘my bids’.
What are sliding end times?
Have you noticed the auction end time on your lot has extended by 30 minutes? These are our sliding end times. If a bid is placed in the last 30 minutes of the auction, the auction end time will extend up to 30 minutes.
Example: if you were to place a bid at 10:10 with the lot scheduled to end at 10:30 the end time for the lot would slide to 10:40
This is to ensure all active bidders on the lot have a fair opportunity to win their desired personalised registration
Can I cancel my bid?
Bids placed cannot be cancelled.
If you are concerned about one of your bids, please reach out to discuss with our helpful customer service advisors.
Are there starting prices on the registrations?
All registrations in our auctions are subject to starting prices, these are decided by the DVLA and are dependent on the registration. Starting prices are shown as the minimum bid when the auction starts and don’t include VAT, buyer’s premium, or the assignment fee. What happens to unsold registrations?
Unsold personalised registrations won’t be available immediately but may return in a future auction. You can register to be notified if a registration you are interested in returns in a future auction using the ‘request a plate’ function here: https://contact.dvla.gov.uk/vehicle/capture-transaction-type💳 Payment

If you’ve bid on and won multiple registrations, V750s will be sent after full payment is received for all registrations.
PLEASE NOTE: you can not change your account holder name or address once payment has been made, and those details will be used by the DVLA to issue your Certificate of Entitlement. You can notify us, or the DVLA of a nominee whose details you wish to appear on the Certificate of Entitlement.
Haven’t received your V750?
It can take up to 3 weeks after payment. If the V750 hasn’t arrived by that time, please get in touch with the DVLA directly to request a replacement. You can contact the DVLA directly - https://contact.dvla.gov.uk/vehicle/capture-transaction-type

- Add the nominee when you receive the V750 in the post (instructions are on the back).
Can I purchase on behalf of a company?
No problem! You can use a company name as a nominee which you can do during online payment, or on receival of the V750🌐 Outside the Auction
